Podcasting 101 - Telling youth stories through podcasting
Updated: Jun 17
Your voice matters—share your story. Podcasting makes it easy for you to tell your story and hear the stories of others. It puts you in control. Podcasting gives a platform to anyone, including people who feel like their stories are often unheard or ignored.
The status quo is not enough. Learning about the experiences, interests and goals of others is an integral step toward working together to make the future you want to see come true. Sharing stories from your life and community can motivate other people to improve their lives and help create safer communities and more comfortable places to live for all.
As Manitobans, we have a special connection to water. From our lakes and rivers to our streams and wetlands, water defines our landscape and who we are. We are more motivated to protect each other, our communities and water when we know, see and strengthen our connections to it.
To truly protect freshwater sources and our communities, we must encourage everyone to learn, understand and appreciate the wonders and the vulnerability of their relationship with water and their story.
Podcasting is a fantastic platform that gives people the opportunity to connect, present their ideas and share their stories.
Join us on Thursday, June 24 at 10 am to learn how. To register now, click here. This 2-hour beginner workshop will be facilitated by Dan Vadeboncoeur and is geared to help you hone your storytelling skills and provide an introduction to podcasting.
This event is supported by the Collaborative Leadership Initiative (CLI). The CLI is a reconciliation initiative between Chiefs from the Southern Chiefs’ Organization (SCO) and Mayors and Reeves from the Winnipeg Metropolitan Region (WMR) and the South Basin Mayors and Reeves (SBMR). The priorities identified by the CLI leaders also align with several of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
UN SDGs provide a global framework for action toward building strong communities. SDGs 6, 11, 15 and 16 address challenges noted by the CLI Leaders.
We want to hear your stories and gain the youth perspective around these goals. Following the event, participants will have the opportunity to create their own podcast around the 4 SDGs:
SDG 6 – Clean water and sanitation
SDG 11 – Sustainable cities and communities
SDG 15 – Life on land
SDG 16 – Peace, justice and strong institutions
